I was a public school teacher for 25 years. I hold a gifted endorsement, a National Board Certification, and a doctorate degree in education. I loved teaching my students and had incredibly supportive parents. As a result of COVID-19, I saw my students struggling emotionally, socially, and academically. I created a non-profit, after-school program for students to receive tutoring services as well as have a safe and nurturing environment to create a variety of painting, pottery, and sewing projects. Little did I know my decision to open an after-school program for students would essentially end my career as a K-12 teacher. You can read about my story in my blog on this site. As a result of the unwarranted treatment I was subjected to, I vowed to become a fierce teacher advocate to ensure other teachers would not have to face the same kind of discrimination, bullying, and targeting behaviors I was forced to endure.
My vision as a teacher advocate is to end the subhuman way teachers are treated in today's schools. I want to create a platform where teachers can come and find helpful information on various topics impacting those on the front line in classrooms across the country. We find comfort in knowing we are not alone. We are currently in an educational crisis, and if things do not change, no one will be left to teach the next generation. Teachers are afraid to speak out due to fear of retaliation, job loss, and financial need. Knowledge is power, and what is happening in schools today should not be swept under the rug but instead on display for all to see. The reality of what teachers are forced to endure daily should be accessible to everyone, which drives me to keep writing.
With my years of experience in teaching, I have gained expertise in classroom management, organization, and discipline. I work with learners of all ages, from kindergarten to older adults. I own a micro-school, Alma Bella Academy, in Chester, Virginia. At Alma Bella, we run programs for K12 learners, Summer Camp, After-School Enrichment, take field trips, work with adults with intellectual disabilities, and memory care for older people. Learning should not stop when you exit the schoolhouse doors but rather should be a lifelong venture. I am passionate about sharing my knowledge with my readers and helping them in any way possible.

Come Learn With Me is a community that provides insights and tips on all things teaching. You need to be a teacher to understand the impossible demands placed on teachers. Only fellow teachers understand what it is like to manage a classroom of 30 different personalities all at one time. Only fellow teachers understand what it is like to simultaneously develop a teacher bladder and a UTI because you can only leave your class supervised. Only fellow teachers understand there is no possible way to plan, grade, contact parents, read and respond to emails, check your mailbox, use the restroom, and grab a bite to eat in the 30 minutes of planning period you get in a day. Especially when 3, out of 5 days, you are told to cover someone else's class during those precious few minutes. Only fellow teachers understand how frustrating it is when the rest of the world believes and comments about you being "off" nights, weekends, and summers or only working 7 hours a day. Only fellow teachers understand fellow teachers. That is why you need to be part of Come Learn With Me. Here, you will find your people. People who are also teachers who understand what it is like to be in the trenches with students day in and day out.
Any and all teachers need a teaching tribe. Our teaching tribe is a support system crucial for teachers' well-being, professional growth, and effectiveness in the classroom.
